Solo Cup Europe, the Environment and Sustainability
March 2010
EcoPack February 24-25, 2010, NEC, Stand 347
The environment and sustainability are at the heart of Solo Cup Europe’s product development programme which has resulted in a number of product innovations and the ground-breaking partnership with Closed Loop London.
The company has contracted with Closed Loop London to take 20% of the rPET (recycled PET) raw material produced by the plant to use in its range of Bare™ rPET tumblers and containers. Closed Loop London takes 35,000 tonnes of recovered plastic a year and turns it back into recycled food grade raw material ready to be made, by manufacturers such as Solo Cup Europe, into new food and drink packaging for the foodservice and food to go sectors.
Solo Cup Europe also co-sponsors the innovative Closed Loop Office Recycling Scheme, alongside Marks and Spencer, which gives businesses the opportunity to recycle the tonnes of sandwich wrappers, soft drink bottles and salad trays that are thrown into general office waste bins every day. In addition, Solo Cup Europe is a founder member of the Paper Cup Recovery & Recycling Group, which has led the way in establishing the most beneficial recycling routes for coated paper cups.
Anne Sutton, Vice President, Environment, for Solo Cup Europe says: “We’re delighted to be sharing a stand with Closed Loop at Eco Pack. It’s a clear signal that we can make a real difference by changing habits, driving innovation and finding new ways of working.”
